Thanks to the Department of Education's Project UNIFY grant, Special Olympics Virginia is again taking the "Volunteer to Cheer" project to schools in three regions of the state – Virginia Beach, Stafford and Richmond – during our three largest competitions – Fall Championships, Basketball Championships and Summer Games. We'll also be encouraging people to be fans during several new
Young Athletes "Little Feet Meets" and
Urban Programs events across Virginia this spring – stay tuned!
These events and competitions will provide a venue for genuine interaction between the disabled and non-disabled student populations in each school, so students can begin to break down stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities and build a more inclusive community.
